at Freedom Candle are pleased to share with you some
Tips & Tricks about candle burning. We
hope you find them interesting and helpful.
1)
Most jar candles need to be burning one hour for
every inch in diameter, this allows sufficient
time for the wax to reach its melting point on
the outer edge. (Wax closest to the glass). If
a 4-inch diameter candle is burned for less than
4 hours you will notice that it has a tunneling
effect in the center of the candle. This usually
can be avoided by burning your jar candles for
a longer period of time as stated above. If you
burn your jar candle for a minimum of one hour
for every inch in diameter (usually 4 hours) and
it still has the same tunneling effect, there is
a problem with the candle…. Please feel free to
return it to us!
2)
To prevent cracking of glass when burning jar candles
we recommend that jar candles should not be used
when there is only 1/2 inch of wax left on the
bottom. The metal tab conducts too much heat into
the glass.
3) Keep all foreign matter out of jars & keep candles away from drafty
areas. Drafts can cause an uneven burn.
4) Always clip the candlewick to approximately 1/4 to 3/8 inch before each
relight to prevent the candle from emitting unsightly smoke. Think of your
candle like a furnace, if the ratio of air to fuel is incorrect it will not
burn properly. When a wick is too long it will cause the candle to smoke. If
the wick is too short it does not get enough fuel to burn properly resulting
in the wick drowning in a pool of wax or tunneling down the center of the candle.
5)
When burning votive candles it is a good idea to
place a small amount of water (approx. 1/2 teaspoon)
in the bottom of the votive holder, this helps
to keep the glass from cracking in the event that
it is forgotten and helps to make the cleaning
of the holder a little easier when changing fragrances. |
